About Us
Who we are and what do we stand for?
In Our Hearts is a New York City based Anarchist network made up of autonomous collectives, projects and individuals who share the goal of building a culture of resistance in the City and beyond.
Over the years, we have worked on a wide variety of projects and continue to add more to the list. ******Most updated info needed here****** Start from 2021 and backwards? In 2005 we organized and hosted a four-day May Day festival. We helped to run the Brooklyn Free Store (founded in 2001) and operated an infoshop at the same location, until 2005. We also organized the regular Really Really Free Markets which came to NYC in 2004 as a response to the Republican Nation Convention. Since 2005 we have held Grub twice per month community dinners on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.

How Can I Help?
Thank you for interest in supporting community fridges!
You can help fill fridges by donating your time, driving for grocery donation deliveries, and donating to IHR Fridges on venmo.
What does it take to start and run your own community fridge?
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
What is Anarchy?
Put simply, anarchism is a political philosophy that aims to create a world in which people can freely cooperate together as equals. Anarchist struggle against all forms of hierarchical control and champion freedom and egalitarianism.
Anarchists believe that people can organize themselves fairly without systems of violence or power telling folks what they can and can’t do. They uniformly to think exploitative and oppressive systems like wage slavery, institutionalized government, racism, food insecurity and hetero-patriarchy are both harmful and unnecessary, and that we should dismantle these structures and build a world of self-determined individuals and communities in their place. For over three centuries, this vision has inspired anarchist social movement on every continent. Including, A New World In Our Hearts.

What Food Can Be Donated?
There are now 100+ fridges in the tri-state area alone. Many fridges have guidelines as to what kind of food they take, usually listed right on their instagram or from the maps view you can find notes. Each fridge is associated with and for the community it’s located in, therefore there are veggie-only, vegan-only, some take milk and meat.
We encourage fresh groceries that are not store-bought, but helping us fight food insecurity by asking food storage managers to make exceptions to their waste. We encourage smaller portions at a time, come with a buddy to help you unload!
Make sure to check with the fridge you are looking to donate to, each community is unique in its needs.
