The Brooklyn Free Store

Since 2013 the Brooklyn Free Store has been each Friday (weather permitting)  at Lafayette & Marcy in BedStuy! Find us there between 12 noon and 5pm (or dusk if that comes sooner. We are located just one block from the Bedford-Nostrand G train stop.

Expect crates of books, records, food, household goods, bags and bags of used and new clothing, and more.

The idea of the Free Store is simple: take what you can use, bring whatever you can share that someone else might like. It is a model for another way of living without money and without scarcity.

All are welcome to come and participate. There is no obligation to share or anything. These items and others are being shared in the spirit of community and mutual aid, please keep that in mind and respect others.

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Free Store especially on Friday mornings but in the late afternoon as well. Come by and let us know if you can help out!

The Brooklyn Free Store was previously located on Walworth St between Dekalb & Willoughby Ave in Brooklyn (right behind Home Depot). It once stood on an empty lot that was occupied by members of the community working with In Our Hearts in June 2010. The structure we later built there was destroyed by a fire in March 2011. Let us know if you are interested in helping us rebuild the Free Store. The Brooklyn Free Store also held community events.
